The 5.18 Memorial, commemorating the massacre of democracy movement activists in 1980. The uprising resulted in either 144, 165, or 207 killed and somewhere between 65 and 987 people missing, plus many troops and police killed or injured. Many of the police and soldier casualties were friendly-fire incidents, and in several cases soldiers fired upon police who released protesters.
